Safety at KMC: Measuring Success
Measuring Success
The ultimate goal of any safety program is simple: ensuring employees return home safely at the end of every shift. While that commitment cannot always be captured by a single number, there are measurable indicators that demonstrate the strength of a safety program and the culture behind it.
Our safety program has not gone unnoticed by industry organizations. In 2024, our Quarry Crew, led by Jason Sams, received the National Mining Association's Sentinels of Safety Award, recognizing the best safety record in the United States in the Small Open Pit category. We were one of only 20 mining operations nationwide to receive the honor.
The Refractories Institute recognized our efforts with its 2025 Chairman's Safety Award, along with individual safety awards for each of our four plants.
These accomplishments reflect the daily commitment of our employees to training, accountability, and looking out for one another. At Kyanite Mining Corporation, safety is a shared responsibility embraced by every employee, every shift, every day.
