Research and Development Engineer
Key Responsibilities:
Become knowledgeable with KMC’s manufacturing processes, quality control systems, and R&D efforts
Work closely with the quality control lab, other R&D personnel, and the sales department on the development of new uses for KMC products and improvements for existing uses
Design and conduct experimental trials in R&D and production environments
Identify, investigate, and implement new technologies to address business goals
Flexibility to travel, if needed, to attend industry conferences and participate in trials at customer facilities
Prepare and/or present scholarly papers/presentations
Job Summary
The R&D Engineer will report directly to the Director of Research and Technology and be an integral member of the R&D team. The R&D Engineer will lead the investigation and development of new product uses and the improvement of existing product uses, as well as aid in the resolution of customer-related problems or questions. The R&D Engineer will apply materials science knowledge in the lab to identify root causes and implement innovative solutions, with a focus on the refractories and investment casting industries. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as in a team setting.
Recommended Qualifications:
B.S. in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
A product quality focus and strong attention to detail
Solid oral and written communication skills
Good time management and planning skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve technical and business problems
Experience in ceramic processing
Experience in project development and management from idea creation to implementation with limited supervision
Strong organizational skills
